STORIES: 'Cowboyin' in Australia
Australia 2006-2007
Australian cowboys and champion bullriders are driven by passion and the thrill of danger.
After my first few days behind-the-scenes at the showground I discovered professionalism in a tough sport which requires vanity, as in dressing up, potential danger and support for each other. Trough the rough and macho image I can see gentle handsome cowboys elegantly leaning on one hip covered in sweat and red dust with fear in their eyes. Like an old quote says; "That's the cowboy's life! Drinkin, lovin, fightin, cowboyin Amongst the mud the blood and the beer !" I followed bull riding competitions at Orange, Bathurst, and Goulburn.
Tommy, Curly, Thorn and Rowan practice bull riding at Dave Hill's farm at Australia's outback, near Nyngan. Dave keeps 200 bulls for rodeo's used around Australia Afterwards they entertain themselves with practicing shooting at wildlife. The latest rodeo's at outback Australia have been cancelled in 2007 because off the animals suffering from severe drought not being strong enough to perform in the arena's.
